Solution:

Distribution Systems Integration

Retail distributor of 8 brands including Tommy Bahama & Lily Pulitzer sought to grow capacity and consolidate brands into one facility.

Challenge

  • Consolidate all brands under one roof
  • Support growing demand in the Eastern U.S.
  • Volume was increasing specifically in states that could not be well supported by existing DC network
  • Growth plans include acquiring additional retail brands to add to their portfolio and needed to plan for that expansion
  • Decrease transportation costs

Solution

  • 560,000 Sq Ft greenfield facility built in strategic location to support growth in Eastern U.S.
  • DC encompasses 6 miles of conveyor with processes from inbound unloading to an automated weighing and inbound print and apply location for routing, then to decanting into totes, to VAS operations, routed to case shuttle ASRS, GTP picking, automated de-lidding application and finally to outbound shipping

Results

  • System efficiencies allowed a reduction in the amount of labor originally planned for by more than 20%
  • Throughput increased by 25-30%
  • Error rate declined by 10%
  • Facility prepared to easily scale for future growth by additional brand acquisitions
